Not really

All they need him for is for their title run in the playoffs

I love kyrie I thin he will be the best point guard in the NBA when he peaks. Do you know how much they spent on him?

No they didn't. Alot of people don't realize Bynum's contract is heavily incentive based because of his past health issues. I think his only guaranteed money is $2 million.

He must be on the Derrick Rose recovery plan.

He could make up to $12 million with the incentives, but he's not going to be making much if he's hurt all year. Plus the Cavs have a team option for his 2nd year. They'll just ditch him if its like his year in Philly. It was really a no lose situation for the Cavs because they would have just ate the money if they didn't get him.

Eta. I guess it was $6 million guaranteed, which is still extremely small IMO.

Except both, not just one, of Bynum's knees are completely shot.

Seriously. I have no clue why the Cavs took a risk, even if it was only $2 million guaranteed when Bynum was reported to have had degenerative knee issues.

Did he have another operation recently or something?
When was the last time he was cut?

If he isn't ready after an entire season of not playing he's never going to be ready unless he'd had some more recent work. You only heal from surgery for so long.

sometimes the gamble pays off. if they "hit" on bynum, he'd be MUCH more valuable than the $12m they'd pay him

such is the nature of the NBA. there are very, very few impact players, and they're worth a lot more than a max salary

teams like the Cavs have to gamble

The cost of carrying Bynum on a contract with an opt-out after a year and with a salary based heavily on incentives is pretty low.

Even shitty big men in the NBA, like Kwame Brown, are typically making $6-8m a season once off of their rookie deals.

Kwame was actually pretty solid defensively.

His career is over. He'll never be the old 18/10 Bynum
