Is there any possible way that when someone links a YouTube video in a post that the link could automatically say "YouTube Link" or just "VIDEO LINK"?

It's annoying reading a thread, clicking on a link and being sent to a random 20 second YouTube video.

I know if you retype the name yourself it will show up but I don't think the majority of posters know this.

Like automatically looking like this:

YouTube Link

As opposed to

LINK

Go ahead and reply with random YouTube videos as Link's. I know y'all are going to.

Usually, I scroll over the link and check the url at the bottom of my browser. This helps at work especially.

why can't you just hover over the link and it will tell if it's youtube

I do the same on my computer. It's really only a problem with me when I'm posting from my phone.

ETA: I guess I could just hold the link down and it would pop up showing it was YouTube, but that's annoying too!

It was your lack of labeling to the YouTube video you posted in the ashes thread that sent me here.

Yeah, I suppose mobile would be tougher. You're right, you'd have to copy the link and paste to see where it was linked.

I'm not sure how you would implement this though. When you click the 'link' button, it defaults to "LINK". How would it know to default to "VIDEO LINK" without there being a process that runs to determine the source type?

Instead of "LINK", it could default to using the url as the link text.

Okay. But how would it determine the difference? That's the issue.

And if you do that with all links, it could be extremely long and take up unnecessary space.

I wasn't suggesting that it determine the difference, I was suggesting that the box just always have the full url (or at least the domain name) as the link text. For example, instead of "LINK" it could very easily strip the domain from the previous box where you had just pasted the link and have the next box say "youtube.com" or "youtube" or "youtube link" or whatever. If it does this with links to all sites, it would be even more helpful. It would be better than 90% of all links saying "LINK".

Gotcha.
The domain could be helpful. I'm not sure how easy it would be to strip to it though.

Very easy.

A little more work but still pretty easy would be changing from the standard popup windows it has now to the "modal" type popups like this:

I think it would be pretty slick if the whole site were like that, so that when you hit reply it pops up something like that. You type your post, hit send, and the page would update live without taking you to the "thanks for posting" page or having to refresh.
