More disappointing intl career?

Different generations, similiar skill sets, similiar career paths. And honestly, I'm not ready to give up on Holden's intl career, though I was often saying the same thing during O'Brien's tenure.

O'Brien has done a hell of a lot more for the US than Holden has. He only played like 32 games for the US over 8 years, but his 2002 World Cup was enough to push him way above Holden. For me, Holden isnt worth all the hype he gets now. (im sure ill get banned for that)

You don't get banned for stupid opinions.

Stu was Boltons player of the year in his one healthy EPL year. He bossed the midfield, is the best teammate anyone could ask for, and is a heartthrob according to the homosexuals here. He deserves every bit of the love fans have for him.

This may be true....

But this certainly is:

Not having Holden is a potential loss, for what he might be able to do for the national team.

O'Brien was a concrete loss, because he had already done it.

StuBear will make an excellent coach. I hope I'm wrong but the injuries he's suffered seem to be forcing him in that direction.

Hard to tell if serious. One good season and very little output after that, for club or country. Played 30 games for Bolton over 4 years. ONE good season. The kid is 27, hard to see his health getting BETTER as he gets older.

Please tell me how Holden being the victim of two dirty, terribly timed tackles is related to his innate health.

Went to Sunderland in 2005, got punched in the face, missed time. When he went back to training, had ankle injury that made him miss the rest of the season. Never played for Sunderland's first team on a 6 month loan.

Tackle from Evans made him miss 6 months of 2010-11 season. Played in Sept 2011 for 90 minutes, missed another 6 weeks, then missed the rest of the season after that due to more damage. Missed 6 weeks in 2010 for the de Jong tackle.

Doesnt matter WHY he missed, he hasnt played enough or done enough on either level to warrant the sexual attraction to his game that he receives. Played great in the US for Dynamo, but England has been a failure, regardless of his one great season. 34 games for club since 2010, 25 US games since 2009. So 59 games since 2009....that aint much....

Holden and Torres are two guys who I think get too much love on this board, especially Holden.

I was always surprised to see him get a tryout in the EPL when he wasn't even a completely dominant player in the ACC. That didn't work out but he was solid in the MLS, but not dominant. I was again surprised to see him get an EPL move. When he was in a US shirt pre-2011, he was never a standout. Usually a solid sub, but he wasn't a dynamic offensive force, so under a Bob ball, when we're down a goal in the first half most of the time, he wasn't exactly what we were looking for in the 65th minute.

Now he was outstanding for 2/3 of a season in Bolton. One of the best midfielders in the EPL, but when looking at what Holden can do as an elite player, we're essentially going on what he did for 2/3 of a season. That's not exactly a huge track record.

O'Brien didn't have a huge track record either, but his Ajax performance was comparable to Stu's Bolton play, but for a bit longer period of time. And by virtue of his starting spot in 2002, he's certainly been more important than Stu for the USMNT.

He and Kyle Beckerman were heads and tails above the rest of the 2009 Gold Cup team... like noticeably different.

Of course, on a team with luminaries like Luis Robles, 35 year old Jay Heaps, Colin Clark and Davy Arnaud, there's a smart kid/short bus paradigm at play there.

Alright, let me revise that statement. He was never a standout on a US A-team. I remember him being good on the 2008 Olympic team as well, but neither of these really count.
