Did anybody else nail Boeing today when they announced another fire on a 787?

Stock dropped like a rock this afternoon when an Ethiopian Airlines (oxymoron, right? ) said one of its Boeing 787 Dreamliners developed a fire as it was parked at a London airport. They said it had been on the ground for 8 hours. (WTF?)

Anyway, I waited as long as I could and bought in when BA was down 6.2%. Of course, it went down another .5%.

Then I sold when it recovered to being only down 4% after it was announced the fire was not in the area where the infamous "spontaneous combustion batteries" are located.

Of course, my anal orifice has not relaxed yet....

Believe it or not, Ethiopian Airlines has a fairly good reputation. It is also one of the few airlines that is profitable.

If I had been in a better position, I would have shorted the heck out of it.

But, I still think it's a solid company and they will recover.

I've worked in Addis Ababa (the capital of Ethiopia) several times for the IMF. The first time was about 30 days after the cease fire with Eritrea was signed.

It was the only place where I saw bodies placed on the sidewalk each morning by their families for a "death wagon" to pick up and bury. The dead persons had starved to death during the night.

Yet the Finance Minister weighed over 300 lbs. Go figure....

I didn't realize how sizable of a hub it is for Africa and the region. I'll be in Chad for a week and I was supposed to go to Lagos the following. Despite them sharing a boarder, there was no direct flights. My only choice was to head back through Addis Ababa or up to Paris...

I've never been to either of those. Safe travels to you.
