They have packages of 10, 20, and 40G per month allowance, and I was wondering how time spent playing online would chew into your overage. I know I have 4G per month on my phone plan and my wife and I never come close to going over. That includes a lot of youtube / pandora. I spend a lot of time playing ps3 / ps4 online though does anyone have knowledge on the subject?

No way you can do it with the latency issues of satellite.

Don't even bother trying. You are talking 800-1200 ms latency and higher.

You would be better off seeing if they have 4G in the area and getting a range extender to bring the signal into your home.

There are packages out there that have everything you need.

This. With 4G you may be able to get under 200ms ping times. Still not good, but playable.

Is the latency with 4G even playable?

I bet you can game on 4G LTE no problems if it is really as fast as they claim.

Yes, I know people that play on it. You will never get P2P host but it's manageable.

About his only option unless he wants to pay for a T3 line to be ran to his house.

Highly dependent on signal strength.

Just ran a ping to Google on my Surface Pro on my AT&T 4G Hotspot, and got 66 ms.

66 isn't bad at all though.

I game on DSL with 30-40

I wish I could get better but it's the only option I have in BFE.

Anything under 100ms is good for gaming.

I moved to this island in the middle of nowhere. Before I figured out how to get comcast I would game on 3G with a signal repeater. I could get about 150ms ping on that. I briefly tried 4G without the repeater and I could get anywhere from 50-200ms. It was very inconsistent. If you take the 4G route spend the money and get a repeater and antenna to boost your signal strength. It will be very playable. On a side note: gaming over a wireless network doesn't use very much data at all for your basic online multiplayer.

I almost had satellite Internet installed but I'm getting a WISP tower installed. A 70 foot tower attached to the house. I'm gonna add all kinds of antennas to that bitch too. frick limited slow Internet.

Who will your service be with on the WISP?

There is a local company there?

I want to start one here where I live so bad but not sure about making that sort of investment.

Now if I could get some of that grant money Obama earmarked for extending the nations high speed internet to people that don't have it I would be all over it.

Anyone that has ever had satellite internet (at least that I know) Doesn't have anything good to say about it.

Most of the time they only have it because that is their only option of internet.

Not worth it. The smallest cloud in the sky with disrupt your signal. And it's slow as hell.

Spoke with a rep from the ISP and he said if I planned on gaming and streaming video that I would go over my allotted 20G in the first week

Needless to say Satellite is out.
