About to file to ESPN. Dave Joerger to be named Memphis head coach.

Not really a surprise. Just took them a while to announce it. Although, I'm not really sure how he can do a better job than Hollins did this season.

It is still such a joke that they let Hollins go.

Is he supposed to though? Maybe the front office just wanted to bring in someone who wouldn't bitch when they traded away an overpaid, overrated player. Also, it doesn't sound like any of the players stood up for Hollins either. So maybe he wasn't as instrumental to the team's success as some people think.

The NBA is the absolute worst of the big four when it comes to the same group of retreads getting job after job after job. Why is there such little young head coaching talent in the lower ranks of basketball?

The Grizzlies have their next head coach. And it's someone familiar.

According to ESPN.com the Grizzlies will promote assistant coach David Joerger to head coach, replacing Lionel Hollins who was not retained after the season.

Following news of Hollins departure, Joerger became the top candidate to replace him.

Joerger, 39, made a name for himself in the IBA, CBA and D-League with the Cedar Rapids River Raiders, Dakota Wizards and Sioux Falls Skyforce winning five minor league championships. He was then hired by the Grizzlies in 2007 by Marc Iavaroni and then promoted to lead assistant and defensive coordinator by Hollins in 2011. Of course the Grizzlies have maintained one of the best defenses the past couple seasons.

The Grizzlies ranked second last season in defensive efficiency allowing just 97.4 points per 100 possessions. They also featured the Defensive Player of the Year in Marc Gasol along with three All-Defense performers (Gasol, Mike Conley and Tony Allen). Safe to say, Joerger has been doing a pretty good job.

The Grizzlies are currently under a new ownership group and front office and are transitioning. Hollins was said to have had some clashes with the new regime which is likely one of the top reasons he was not retained despite overseeing the most successful season in franchise history.

Some of the people in ownership were apparently more afraid of losing him then Lionel. They think he is going to be a future star coach in this league

Hollins did a great job this year but his lineup/matchups he used in the playoffs at times this year really cost them.

Why it took him so long to realize putting tony Allen on cp3, Durant and tony Parker was the best way of slowing them down was baffling and eventually cost us vs San Antonio
