LSUSaint-While he bleeds purple and gold, there are others factors, NOT related to football that are issues concerning Davon. It has nothing to do with academics or athletics. Believe me, if you were in his shoes, you would consider your options also. But at the end of the day, he will be a Tiger.

Duckie- I will explain the Bama troll that was at the game last night later.

Willis is faster than Sam Montgomery and quicker of the snap too.

No. Just. No. Montgomery ran a 4.88 at the combine (not one of his best times either). Willis is listed on 247 as a 5.16. Players aren't always bigger and faster with every new class, there's no reason to exaggerate this player's talents. He's a great HS player that projects to DT in college (even though he doesn't want to). He could play DE, but Chavis prefers smaller faster DEs. Willis, unless he stops growing, will probably be around 270 when he gets on campus at his college of choice. That's not LSU DE size.

It's not all about your 40 time as a DE bro. Willis has a very quick first step, great bend, and great 10 yard burst. He's being recruited as a DE, so the LSU coaches obviously think he can play there.

However, he is about 20 pounds away from being a DT, but who's to say he can't turn some fat into solid muscle, trim down a bit, and hover around the 260-270 range and be an all around DE? I will venture to say that's what the staff is envisioning for Gerald Willis

Dumb argument. I've watched every game multiple times. Montgomery was the slowest D linemen off the snap. Even slower than the D tackles. His motor made up for his lack of speed

Let me guess. 247 never gets anything wrong. Those measurements aren't always correct.

Brick Haley is the D line coach. He picks who plays.

What in height? To keep growing in weight he would have to keep trying to gain weight. You make it seem like no player ever has maintained their weight. Lots of players stay on eating plans to keep their current weight instead of gaining or losing pounds.

Really? Ever heard of a guy named Lavar Edwards. Played all 4 years at DE. Brick Haley picks the best player to play. Regardless if they weigh 260+ or 230.

If we're talking about "faster" then 40 times are the most accurate measurement. How does Montgomery's first step compare to Willis', mathematically? What about his bend? His 10 yard burst? These things are not convincing without some sort of comparative measurement - I could just as easily say the same things about Montgomery.

That wasn't my argument, that was how I was beginning my response. Slowest off the snap? How is that measured? How fast is his motor? If his 'motor' is so great, then we can probably safely say he's really fast. What is the speed of Willis' 'motor?'

these statistics are what we have and they show a difference in speed. There's no reason to question them unless you can show that 40 times are inherently inaccurate or have a +/- rating that equalizes these numbers, which are .3 of a second apart. But you're only questioning them because they indicate that you're wrong.

then Brick Haley prefers smaller DEs.

He would have to keep trying to gain weight? Like other defensive linemen, when they're overweight, tried so hard to get there? You make it seem like no player ever has gained weight between their junior and senior seasons. Lots of players overeat and blow up instead of staying on diets.

This is true, I was wrong - I remembered our DEs as being typically smaller, but we've had numerous DEs play in the 250-280 range.

Team, I know one of his teachers who told me his GPA and ACT score and he has a ways to go. Academics may be an issue with him regardless where he signs

I don't believe that. Miles and the staff have been following his grades for a while now. Every report said he had a good GPA but just needed to improve his ACT score. He even mentioned about enrolling early. Yet he's got a ways to go? That teacher was either lying or mistaken. A couple posters on here are also close to the situation and none are really worried about his grades/scores.

Okay, enough about the Academics. We don't know and won't know what is the truth. It's moot now. What I want to know is, what happened to the he would commit if offered notion?
