Big Game Battier came up huge for the Heat tonight.

I thought that I'd re-post this great NY Times article on Battier from 09 now that he's been a key piece in Miami's two titles and has adapted his game to battle with PFs for an entire season. I'll never understand why so many people on here hate him.

If you don't feel like reading the article, then please use this thread to talk about how awesome Battier is. TIA

Are you serious? He's just one of those pesky, annoying guys that you hate if he's playing against you and love if he's playing for you.

He's not obnoxious like a Joakim Noah, and he's not a dirty player like a Bruce Bowen type. He's just a really hard working, heady player who busts his arse and also happens to be really smart. I love his interviews. Guy gives some great insights.

He's everything wrong with the NBA today, would rather take a charge and flop than go for a block

The rules are the rules. Battier is smart enough and has the awareness to take full advantage of them. I can respect that

It's not really about being dirty, although Hibbert and David West both accused him of taking shots at their knees. It's really about his flopping and he just annoys you.

?

He's known for taking charges, not flopping.

Awesome article

He is an extremely intelligent player. His basketball IQ is one of the best. He is a student of the game, and studies it constantly. He knows what to do and when to do it defensively on the court. I can't wait until he goes into coaching.
