I remember all 4 of those. Damn that has to hurt. I know it wasn't a major, but that Gamez shot was from like 150 on 18.

ETA: the craziest is still Mize in the 87 Masters.

Norman's had more epic chokes. Mickelson actually got beat playing decent golf on some occasions rather than choking like Norman. But Mickelson does still have some legendary chokes on his resume.

2006 Winged Foot was pretty brutal though.
Almost equals any failure by Norman.

Norman. Mickelson is an all time great golfer, just not Tiger Woods.

Tiger isn't Tiger anymore either.

This topic is ridiculously stupid. Mickelson is one of the all time greats. Do people understand how few guys have won 4 majors or more?

Where do Tiger's numerous chokes since 08 rank? Nobody can argue Tiger's greatness. The point is all great players will not hit every shot or make every putt in crunch time.

I wish I had been more interested in PGA golf at that time.

I would think with as big as his bank account(s) are, he's not worried about much of what went on when he was playing golf.

Tiger has 14 majors. Like Jack with 18 major and 19 seconds, those dudes are not really included in this discussion because they are both all time great majors winners.

Norman was playing pretty well when Bob Tway holed out from the bunker on 18 in the PGA and Larry Mize holed out from off the green in the playoff at the Masters. Norman has a monumental collapse, but so does Phil and Phil has finished 2nd in the US Open 6 times. A 6 time runner up in the US Open with zero wins is in the all time choke/bad luck discussion IMO.

Phil was bit by a garter snake. Greg was bit by a king cobra.

the only choke I remember from norman was the masters. the others were just incredible shots that only happen one in 100. what else has mize done? zinger? not much really...

That Mize shot was 1 in a million from where he was.

So the question is, who is second place to the other?

Norman is worse.

Phil's 3 titles at Augusta are the real deal. I wish he could get the US Open title.

Norman choked twice at The Masters. In 1986, he bogied 18 from the fairway to miss out tying Nicklaus.

Phil Mickelson gambled once and lost two shots. He gambled again and lost his lead.

Stop here if this sounds all too familiar.

Another roller-coaster day in a major championship ended with Mickelson coming up short again, blowing an early four-shot lead with a 75 Friday that left him four shots behind in the PGA Championship.

Just when it seemed Mickelson was on the verge of overcoming his major championship demons, he gave into his aggressive nature at the wrong time and ended up with a couple of wet golf balls.

It cost him two double bogeys in a stretch of three holes on the front nine in a tournament he seemed ready to dominate.

Mickelson's only consolation? It was Friday and not Sunday.

Besides, he wasn't about to apologize for how he got where he was. Not even if he's 0-for-41 and counting in majors as a pro.

PGA 2003. Phil didn't win.
