What is the pay scale for inside sales in Houston? I've been working for a pipe, fittings, and valves distributor in New Orleans for over a year and I'm trying to move back to Houston in August. I've just started to look for jobs. I'd prefer to find a outside sales job honestly and build my resume to get into Petrochem.

I haven't started to look yet but I keep hearing that Houston is booming. Anybody have any suggestions or leads? Which industry is hiring the most? Which website should I look on for the best jobs? I usually look on indeed.com. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Our inside sales reps start around 45-50K. Landing an outside sales job is all about who you know from my experience.

it depends on the company really. I've seen some inside sales jobs pay 55k base and no commission. I've seen some get paid 65k base and no commission.

i've also seen some get 30k base +commission. Or some inside sales jobs get about 45k+ commission.

Outside pays a lot more, obviously.

currently i'm getting paid 40k with no commission. Of course I'd much rather be making 50k.

what kind of companies are those jobs in Moustache?

thanks Moustache and beaver.

All of ours are on a bonus structure which usually puts an extra 5-10K in their pocket per year if they meet certain milestones and criteria. The outside guys make the big commissions.

Oil and gas technology. We buy a lot of different parts to build our equipment which we sell to the operators. I would apply with some of the bigger distributors/conglomerates in town like DXP, Grainger or Hydradyne. Also, try any of the valve mfg's in town as they will give you a lot of exposure to the industry.
