I agree it sucks for OP, but if I had to bet it was a misunderstanding between wife and hostess.

She probably said something along these lines, "We aren't taking reservations for Mother's day now, but you are welcome to walk in".

She probably should have said "we're all booked up, but you're welcome to walk-in".

I might have seen you there. I got there, maybe 1245 ish, and we got a table outside. I remember (vaguely) a group of people looking uncomfortable at the bar.

Wife : are you taking reservations for Mother's Day.
Hostess: No
Wife: you're not taking them or your already full.
Hostess: we are not taking reservations just show up early for a table.

Not that this makes it okay but there's a chance the person just didn't know and made an honest mistake. In general, especially during finals week, restaurant employees are part time. It's not out of the realm of possibility that whoever answered the phone had no idea they were taking reservations when they never do. Hell, sometimes I take a week off of work and return to a whole new set of rules

Either way, I hope you let the incident roll off your back and enjoyed your meal. I make a note never to dine with someone again when they let a restaurant mishap ruin good company.

I was grumpy but we could really "visit" too much anyway since we were at the bar.

P.S. Byronz takes reservations........I make reservations there all the time.

I would have asked for the manager as soon as they told you that you couldn't be seated due to not having reservations, when they told you earlier that they were not accepting reservations.

nothing worse than dining out on Mother's Day or Secretaries Day. Crowds everywhere are redonkulous. I drove in to BR to take my mom to Beausoleil, but made sure to arrive after 1:30pm. Got seated immediately. Food was great, as well as service. They were to close at 3pm and a group of 8 showed up at 2:55. I felt bad for the servers.
