he's been recovering nicely from a slow start. Glad he's locked up for a while.

That's a friggin steal. He'll probably have a $15M value for the second half of that contract.

That's awesome! Super excited for what I'm seeing from this team, front office and players.

Seems a bit shortsighted on his part because if he's the real deal he seems like, he could get more in a few years. But if he's happy where he is, good for him. Refreshing to see some of the young guys who aren't only about the money.

He just guaranteed himself 40 million dollars.

Opposite of shortsighted.

Plus guys restructure and extend deals. Reds did it with Votto.

he was making like 400k.

do the math. its a huge raise.

these type of deals have become pretty common anyway. Longoria, Castro, Posey i think is on one.

Nevermind this is a fair contract on all parts. It buys out all his arb years at a fixed cost. He gets security and loses no money on his free agent year.

Smartly the cubs pay him till 30 and let someone else pay top dollar for his past performance

Posey was a bit different, it will be an awful contract in the second half as he gets to 30. But mega deals always are.

This is great news. You can already see how vastly the Front Office has improved in such a short time.

Farm system is no longer a hell hole, most of the bad contracts are gone, locked up Rizzo and Castro for the long haul, and solid FA pickups this year (Schierholtz, Navarro, Borbon)
