I swear I thought I read it somewhere bout the heater, but dropped the ball on reading the part about losing coolant

You don't have to have milky oil or white smoke to have a blown head gasket.

I know that, but normally those are the telltale signs. I've been around a couple.

ETA: and early-mid 2000 pontiacs were know for faulty heater cores.

Thanks everybody. Think I may just take it somewhere. Don't want to buy another car not sure if the car is even worth fixing.

Well took it to a mechanic. The water pump was leaking and there are some plastic fittings that cracked. Had them vhsnge the belt also. Hopefully she will run a little on get for me. Hate paying car notes, buts into my gun money!!!

Wish I had got to your question before you brought it in.
My wife had an 03. Same thing happened to it about 3 years ago.
Two little plastic lines that make 90 degree turns if I recall correctly.

Oreilly auto parts sells them in aluminum btw. Just started selling them in the last 3 months.
op said he couldn't see coolant leaking. That elbow leaking would have left a trail of coolant somewhere.
