Best Undrafted Free Agent Signing: New Orleans Saints: OLB Chase Thomas
Thomas was viewed as a second-day prospect for a lot of the draft process. He had a solid 2012 season which wasn't as impressive as his junior season. Thomas stock was hurt by a disappointing Senior Bowl as he moved from playing outside linebacker in a 3-4 to a 4-3 defense. Still, Thomas has consistently been an impact pass-rusher over the past two years with a total of 16 sacks.

The Saints are transitioning to a 3-4 defense, and Thomas could compete for playing time immediately with Martez Wilson and Junior Galette. Thomas isn't the biggest or the fastest, but he is a tough football player. It wouldn't be surprising if Thomas makes the team and provides an impact in 2013.

Honorable mentions: Carolina S Robert Lester, New Orleans CB Rod Sweeting, Jacksonville TE Ryan Otten, Washington OT Xavier Nixon, Seattle G Alvin Bailey, Tennessee RB Stefphon Jefferson, Houston RB Ray Graham, Houston RB Dennis Johnson, Houston RB Cierre Wood, Baltimore QB Nathan Stanley, Cleveland OT Chris Faulk and Buffalo WR Da'Rick Rogers.

Love the signing of Thomas. Definitely think he will make the team and push for playing time.

I have no doubt Thomas makes the team IMO. He can back up one of the OLB spots immediately and spell the starters.

let's say he is

Shanle we got for a 7th round pick and he started for what, 6 years?

Thomas is an UDFA. If he starts for 6 years, I'd say that's a solid acquisition

I actually pegged this guy in the 3rd round of one of my mocks. He's going to make an impact this year. Mark my words!

Another writer from Walterfootball picked Sweeting as one of the top UDFA signings:

New Orleans Saints: Rod Sweeting, CB, Georgia Tech

There were some scouts at the East-West Shrine who felt that Sweeting was in the running as the best defensive player there. He had a solid career for Georgia Tech. The 5-foot-11, 189-pounder has quality size and showed some speed with a time of 4.42 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the Combine. Sweeting would be best as a zone or press-man corner in the NFL.

The Saints' secondary had a lot of problems in 2012, so Sweeting could compete for a backup spot behind Keenan Lewis and Patrick Robinson. New Orleans has had a knack for finding some diamonds in the rough and Sweeting is worth watching.

Walter gave us a ton of respect. He's a guy I really value when it comes to knowing football. Has us ranked 6th best in the NFL in his power rankings.

The Saints have their head coach back. They also have an improved defense. I like the Kenny Vaccaro and John Jenkins selections in the 2013 NFL Draft. It's pretty bogus though that New Orleans didn't have a second-rounder to keep bolstering its stop unit. You'd think suspending Sean Payton for a year would be enough of a punishment for Bountygate.

SI gave a nod to Reddick being one of the best UDFA's.

Bucky Brooks and Gil are all over our nuts about having a great draft and UDFA as well.

Can't wait for camp. So many positions up for battle. NT, OLB, ILB, OLB and the 3-5 CB spots. DE opposite Jordan and I who knows what the Saints plans are for SS and FS.
Crazy.

How could I forget LOT.

This is actually one of the players you can say has a high motor, hi football IQ, and while he isn't the fastest, and he's white, it's still a good thing.
