Draft Prospect: TE Travis Kelce
Posted by blueslover on 3/3/13 at 8:56 pm00
added to the list of players meeting with Saints at the Combine. Worth a look...
6'5" 255lbs
Cincinnati senior tight end Travis Kelce will be sidelined during workouts this week at the 2013 scouting combine in Indianapolis due to an abdominal tear. He suffered the injury last month and was unable to participate in the Senior Bowl. Considered a possible second round pick, Kelce is NFLDraftScout.com's No. 3 tight end and top senior at the position. On Thursday, he officially measured in at 6-4 7/8” and 255 pounds with 33 3/4" arms and 9 5/8” hands. Kelce is the younger brother of Jason Kelce, who was a sixth round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2011 NFL Draft.
Kelce led the Bearcats in every receiving category in 2012 with 45 catches for 722 yards and 8 touchdowns, ranking among the nation's leaders in tight end production. He had just 14 catches on his resume entering the season, but used an All-Conference senior year to propel himself into the top-50 discussion of the 2013 NFL Draft.
Kelce is highly rated because of his all-around ability, competing in the trenches as a physical blocker, but also creating as a receiver at all levels of the field. He was expected to run in the 4.6 range in the 40-yard dash and test well, but the abdominal injury could keep him from working out prior to the draft, depending on the severity of the tear. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com LINK
Cincinnati senior Travis Kelce (younger brother of Eagles center, Jason Kelce) might have the most complete skillset of them all, though. A 6’6” 260 pound sledgehammer with speed and strength, Kelce will undoubtedly draw comparisons to Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski as he goes through the pre-draft process.
Part of what makes Gronkowski such an impressive NFL tight end (and why Kelce compares favorably to him) is because he’s a strong, technically sound, and tenacious blocker, and the Bearcats use his talents in a number of ways in their run game.

Great writeup, would love to have in the 3rd, adding him with Graham would be awesome and set for the future.

Big fan of this kid. Watched the Cincy vs Duke bowl game, which was the best game of bowl season IMO. This kid took it 80 yards to the house with 20 seconds left for the win. He will be a good NFL tight end. Does it all too. Block and catch.

Would take him in the 3rd in a heartbeat if he's still there. Plugging in a new legit offensive weapon is going to bring a lot more to the table NOW during our window than drafting a defensive guy who may take a few years to become a true starter. Offensive is significantly more important than defense in today's NFL anyway. Having another guy that moves the chains and keeps the Offense on the field/consistent would be a huge get.

If he is available in the 3rd round at our pick then it wouldnt be a bad pick IMO. He will not get to round 4.

Is this the guy that was asked if he has a girlfriend?

He will make it to the 4th round. There just isnt a big demand for back-up TE's this year. Although, since Gronk and Graham came into the league everyone will be looking at similar players trying to repeat.

I think I remember seeing this guy make the game winning TD in their bowl game. It was a beautiful seam route and dude outran everyone

This guys measurables are impressive. Just dont see him lasting past the 2nd round. Tight-end steals like Jimmy will be hard to get in the mid to later rounds. The emergance of Jimmy,Gronk,Davis and others will have teams looking at TE in the first and second rounds.

I'm convinced we'll be drafting a TE somewhere in the draft and, luckily, there a lot to choose from this year...he looks as good as anybody.
