Hes prob referring to the thornless bush types that are popular now. We've started growing a couple varieties and I planted a few with my blueberries this year.

Ill make my list on here as well.

Citrus:
Meyer Lemon and Improved Meyer Lemon, Brown Select Satsuma, Owari Satsuma, Lousiana Early Satsuma, Kumquat x2 (forgot which varities but sweets), Key Lime, Washington and Louisiana Sweet Oranges

Blackberries- Apachie and Arapaho

Blueberries- Tiff blue, Premier, and Climax

Grape- cant remember the variety but green

Brown Turkey fig x2

Peach tree, Plum tree and Necterine x2

Pass on the blackberries...even the thornless varieties. They're very disease prone, hard to maintain, and are a very ugly plant for 3/4 of the year. Blackberries do, however, make the best tasting jelly in the world.

As to fence plants, it all depends on your preference. You might look at clematis or mandevillas or even confederate jasmine for fence climbers. Loropetalum and hydrangeas seem to be popular right now. Maybe lantana or mexican heather if you want something shorter. For bedding type plants, there are far too many options to list. I like verbena, myself. Also, check out vinca, moss rose (portulaca), perselane, marigolds, celosia, bronze leafed begonias, etc...

I mispoke. They won't be going on the fence. I will plant them about 4-5 feet from the fence. I want to plant a line of about 6-8 plants each spaced about 8-10 feet apart (on center).

I did have reservations on blackberries because they don't look very pretty. I may just import my blackberries from my buddies house. He has a lot of land. I, on the other hand, only have about 3200 sq ft of backyard space.

UPDATE: Finally pulled the trigger and planted a Celeste Fig and Moro Blood Orange Tree yesterday. The Fig went in fine, the Orange not so much. First dig i hit the sprinkler pipe. Had to cover back up and moved the tree up a few feet. Hit roots from old pear that blew down during the hurricane before i moved into the house. Took me about an hour to dig down and cut out and pull out all the roots.

I also bought 2 blueberry bushes (brightwell and premier) that i will be planting today. I am planting them 6' apart. I am thinking about planting 2 strawberry and 2 blackberry bushes in addition, in the back along the fence line. And maybe a couple apricot trees or something in the middle and one day putting a bench between them.

Yeah, the guy at the nursery suggested buying some acidic soil, so i was going to do that.
