when these guys were playing. I don't think I was old enough at the time to appreciate how friggin good the Dome Patrol was. It truly is sad that they didn't get a Super Bowl. They were easily Super Bowl good and could have been historic with more help from offense!

This team would be unstoppable if it had a defense that was remotely as good as The Dome Patrol was. They were brutal. The main reason they never won anything was being stuck in the same division as the Montana 9'ers.

We'd be unstoppable, and would take a fluke scenario to lose a game.

I wouldn't have skin on my flute anymore.

Dome patrol was about the time i really became a die hard Saints fan.i was a casual fan, but something about that defense got my attention growing up, and i have been an unwavering fan ever since.

The '85 Bears had Walter Payton and a dangerous offense and are generally considered the greatest defense of all time.

With a few more points scored by the offense, the Dome Patrol could be mentioned in the same breath easily.

It was similar to today but in reverse. In the NFL today you can compete with a elite offense and a less than average defense as we have seen since 2006.

They were a dominant group but I would say not quite as elite as the offense has been since '06. It was a good run though. The defense rankings in Points & Yards from 1986 to 1992-

7 14
5 4
4 12
11 12
8 15
1 2
1 2

Memory of that era also makes me appreciate Payton's quest for the right defensive coordinator. I cussed Carl Smith but then cussed Mora and the FO for keeping the same formula on O year after year. It could have been a similar story now if Gary Gibbs would have never been replaced.
