Yeah it would have been really cool if they would have back dated it till when the original Norman bates would have been young, maybe 40's? But that would be pretty hard to do. So I guess they are just trying to throw in some old school stuff.

Abernathy was the detective in the movie. He was awesome. Looked on imdb and it looks like they're going to have an Abernathy character. So that will hopefully work out good. Next to Bates, Abernathy probably was the next best character.

Like others have said the setting there me some too. I swore it was in the 50s until they pull out iPhones. Then they keep showing older stuff like their wardrobe, refrigerator, etc. Wasn't bad though. I'll watch again.

Why did they bleep out the word arse in the opening scene? Isn't this cable? Also, why even write the word in the script if it can't be said on air?

I get the feeling the sheriff, the dude from Lost, that he is evil as hell. I'll go ahead and really go out on a limb here and say that he is somehow related to the pictures in the book Norman has found.

Maybe he was in it with say the dead guy who used to live there that mommy killed, or it is him alone. Or maybe he's just corrupt as hell.

If any of my theories are the case, it would give the viewer more of a opportunity to side with Norman and his "mom".

Breaking Bad was the same way. If you watch it on Netlix there are a good bit of f bombs. Don't know why they do that. Just makes more editing for yourself to do. I didn't notice them editing arse. I thought you could say that multiple times on a station like A&E; AMC does it.

I was disappointed. I had high hopes with Carlton Cuse. Lost really must have been lightning in a bottle. BTW, how many times did Norman go around saying his name was Norman Bates and not just Norman. Shoe-horned that in way too much.
