A few questions for all of the YouTube experts on the board

1. First and foremost I cannot record on ANY graphics setting without a massive hit to frame rate. I can run league of legends at very high settings at 120-200 fps at max res. Fraps lowers this to 15-30 on any graphical setting. Is my hardware simply insufficient for recording? I have a early model dual core I7, 6gb ram and 550 ti.

2. What video editing software do you recommend?

3. Is there a size limit to YouTube uploads/Do I need compression software? I record onto a 2 TB external drive so space is not an issue.

I use FRAPS as well and you can expect a drop in FPS but not that significant. How fast does your hard drive write? At a minimum it needs to be 7200RPM. If it is, I bet there is some lag between the it and the USB connection since it's external.

Just my thoughts, maybe Stout or some of the other guys can help in a little more detail.

That's nuts. I have never seen someone take that kind of hit. Try Dxtory or torrent a copy of Camtasia and try them out.

Camtasia comes with a simple editor and it renders way faster than any other I have used. That or just get a copy of Sony Vegas.

No size limit as Youtube converts whatever you upload and compresses it themselves but at first Youtube will limit you to below a 15 minute length. They will lift this after a few uploads.

Yea I bet recording to an external drive is a huge issue. That's not an ideal set up.

I doubt HD speed would hurt your frame rates. One of my HDs is 5400 and I can record to it using fraps and Camtasia without a huge frame rate drops like you are having.

If anything it will just make the quality of your recording shite but it still shouldn't drop your FPS.
