I don't think any of us forget, we just are so far beyond that point in the show we weren't sure what he was referencing. Also, the show does everything but have Gus hold up a neon, flashing sign saying he did it.

They are on the phone a ton in that show. Notice how no one ever says goodbye. They all just pause and hang up.

It would make shitty dialogue with all the goodbyes and shite at the end of calls, but it sticks out to me.

In fairness to all, Hank got two decisive calls: One from Saul's secretary that almost ended his career, pretending Marie was in an accident, and one warning him of the assassins, which saved his life. Given the disguise of the voice on the second call, I always assumed it was a job he would have assigned to Mike Ehrenraut.
