I think it is a slap in the face to the Spurs to say OKC used the same model.

I agree with you, and hopefully one day the Pelicans will slap the Spurs in the face with their version of the Spurs model, but OKC using the easy button doesn't change the fact that the draft is the most likely supplier of good star players to small markets.

Anderson probably has the best contract in the nba of non rookies. In fact, I can't think of any other good ones. It's not really feasible to fill a roster with cheap overachievers.

we do have some good value, but rybot needs to be our 4th guy, likely, to win a title

i don't disagree, but it's just insanely hard

we hit our "durant" last year. we need to find a westbrook & harden in the next 2 drafts

Houston for sure. We are tied for dead last in our conference and the Rockets are most likely gonna make the playoffs.

Every player on the rockets is about at their ceiling, besides robinson. ROckets would need another star to push them to the next level, if they get CP3 or Dwight in the offseason then they will be a top 3 seed with their offense. Hornets on the other hand have young players like davis, gordon, and rivers who are no where near the players they could be in the future. So i would say we have the better future but the rockets have more of an ability to bring in a star. But if they dont they will stay aroung the 6 or 7 seed for a long time while if our players develop and with high draft picks we have a chance to be a top 4 seed in a few years, if players develop.

Houston...but I still think Davis develops into a top 5 big man in the next 2-3 seasons. The sooner the Pelicans ditch Gordon, the better. Even when he is healthy he's no more than a guy who puts up good numbers for crappy teams. He's not a winner IMO. Get what you can and give Davis the keys.

so 24 year old gordon is young and "nowhere near" their ceiling but 23 year old james harden is at his ceiling?

sound logic there

James Harden is already an elite scorer and can win a scoring title. Already has the ability to get to rim and get fouled and is a great shooter. He has good passing skills in the drive and dish game when he passes to cutting big men and open perimeter shooter when he is doubled. He has speed and has been in the league long enough to know how to get fouled and how to be an above average defender. He is an elite player. How will he improve? Gordon on the other hand has shown the ability to be a great scorer but he is mediocre at best in all other categories. He has never been able to put together a full season so we have no idea how good he can be. In my opinion he will never live up to hype because he can never stay healthy and its crazy to think he ever will with his history. Not saying gordon is better than harden just saying harden is already he player he will be for the rest of his career.

Let's look at the Rockets current starting five.

Lin - first full season starting
Harden - first season starting
Parsons - second season
Motiejunas - rookie
Asik - first year starting

I still think that EG can be our Harden. Never as good as this year's Harden, but I think that he can flirt with last year's Harden. I think the guy really doesn't give a frick right now, even when he's playing poorly, but when he airballed that shot against the Nets, I think someone said something to him that pissed him off. After that, he had that absurd dunk and played extremely well the rest of the game. Let him get back into game shape and put some more talent around him, I think he'll play a lot better than he has this season.

Gonna be a LONGSHOT to find that third great player, and while AD will most likely become an elite player, we'll be lucky if he's ever the 2nd best in the NBA. That's why I think we either have to take a HUGE risk on the 3rd of our big 3 (4 year max deal to Bynum, which I'm not sure anyone else will offer) or live with one elite player, 2 fringe All Stars (EG/?), and better 4th-7th best players than anyone else.

On that note, Motiejunas has been kicking arse lately. Don't know if he'll ever be a very good rebounder/defender, but he's getting a chance to show his skillset and just had 19/5 in 27 minutes to go along with one of the sweetest assists you'll ever see a big man have (@17 seconds)

The Rockets have the best player in Harden.

The Hornets have the potential to have the best 1-2 punch in Davis/Gordon.

The Rockets are shaping up to be solid at every position with great young talent. They looke like a consistent 6 seed in the future though. They need to add another star if they want to contend.

It's all about Gordon with the Pelicans. If he can be the 20-point, efficient scorer soon for the team (and healthy), then we have the brighter future. If not, it's the Rockets.

Vasquez > Lin
Harden > Gordon
Parsons > Aminu
Davis > Motiejunas
Asik > Lopez

Anderson is the best bench player, but the Rockets have some nice rookies (T. Robinson and T. Jones). We'll just have to see what happens with them and Rivers.

...bottom line, I would take the Rockets future because of the Gordon situation. It's close though imo, and it could change if Gordon pans out.

awesome pass...he was playing against the Suns with Scola and the Morris twins starting though. I think he's gonna be a good player. That team has a lot of scoring.

They have the cap room and proactive FO to get a proven commodity. The Rockets are a playoff team that's a piece away from being a contender. Then there are guys like Moti and Robinson who can develop into very good players. Of course, Parsons has made big strides since his first season.

And the fact of the matter is that it's unlikely that the Hornets will actually draft another superstar in the near future. It doesn't work that way. The Thunder, for example, were incredibly lucky relative to the many other bad teams that have been in their position over the years.

I mentioned their ability to bring in big named players in another comment earlier, and yes if they add another star they will be a great team, but as of now i think they will always be a 6 or 7th seed with their roster, but then again the hornets with their current roster would struggle to even get in the playoffs. But yes if houston brings in a big name FA they will be a top 5 seed.

they do have max cap room and are a city a max-type FA would consider. that's a big advantage for them getting a big piece

No player in the rockets starting lineup will make major improvement.

i think asik, parsons, and lin can still make big jumps
