I been thinking about making a couple of ground boxes like that and try planting a few things. Do you fill it to the top? Use all potting soil?

After placing the box in position, I laid newspaper down inside it to kill the grass. Covered it with about 7-8" of garden soil from Clegg's. the fence boards are 5.5" wide so that makes the height of the finished box about 11" high. I finished two today and will make a couple more tomorrow. Need more fence boards and dirt.

Just bought my cedar and will be adding 2 more 4x12 cedar raised beds this year
I like the boxes on the fence. Might have to steal that idea for my herbs.

Very nice. I did something similar last year and built another for this spring. 4" x 8' cedar planks with 3" x 3" cypress posts (someone gave me). Filled with one part compost, one part top soil, and one part peat moss. Used this recipe last year and had more tomatoes, squash, and cucumbers that I knew what to do with. I really like the fence boxes. I will definitely be stealing that idea for this spring.
