And how many catholic high schools are there in New orleans?

Do you realize the best public schools in New Orleans are in the same boat with the catholic schools?

A scholer has about 10 times the football
ability of a scholar so therefore they give
scholerships.

These people making excuses for why they lose and trying to change the rules of the game to their advantage are pitiful.

Nut the frick up and win something on your own merits. Jobbing the syatem should give you no satisfaction.

Just heard on the radio that Newman's president is attempting to get the bylaw that split the football tossed out. Didn't hear the entire news segment, but the LHSAA Constitution states that their will be 5 championship games & a bylaw can't super secede the constitution.

this is really about two schools and rather than attack them, they attacked them all, some very undeservingly so.

one thing is that Curtis and ECA need to be allowed/move up even if it is just for football.

I'd agree with this. In fact, I think it's mostly just about 1 school - Curtis. I don't think if it was only Evangel, you'd be seeing this. And I don't think most schools have a huge problem with other private or select schools. At least not to the extent that it would have led to the split.

Of course, saying "rather than attack them, they attacked them all" is not 100% correct IMHO. I've been watching this stuff from the sidelines (our school has not had to deal with either in their classification as far as I can recall) for years. And it seems to me they've been trying to alleviate this situation for years. But all utterly unsuccessfully. They've tried letting them move move up. They've tried making them stay down. Nothing has gained any traction.

And I always thought it was the big 5A schools, including the big 5A catholic schools that were against letting Curtis play up to 5A recently. Is that incorrect? (I know there was a time when teams could play all the way up and Evangel did it but Curtis only went to 4A.

I say have 3 select champions and 2 non-select champions since the selects play the best football anyway.

I think this one's dead if that is the case.

4As may not want to play Karr, Teurlings, St. Aug, etc., but they also don't want to play West Monroe.

That being said, a 1A-2A, 3A, 4A-5A set of select brackets would be fun to watch, as 3A select is stacked thanks to Curtis, Evangel, U-High, and Parkview.

No matter how you choose to mis spell or mis represent the word, it doesn't change the fact the John Curtis does not give out scholarships.

The constitutionality issue is intriguing. I've checked out the constitution to see what it says. So far haven't found the part where they have to have 5 and only 5 championship games. But did find the following parts:

quote:

8.7.4 Schools Competing in Football:
1. Football schools shall be divided into five equal or nearly equal classes.

quote:

7.4 The LHSAA Constitution and Bylaws may be amended by a simple majority vote of the delegates present and voting at any regular or special meeting. Other business coming before the general assembly shall be decided by majority vote.

quote:

4.4.6 Constitute a board of appeals which shall consider complaints or appeals filed on the decision(s) of the Executive Director and interpret the Constitution and Bylaws of the Association.
1. To consider an appeal, the request must be made in writing within 15 days from the date of the ruling.
2. At least 24 hours notice shall be given to the school prior to its appeal being heard by the Committee.
3. No member of the Executive Committee shall serve on the Committee if a case involves his/her school or parish. 4. The decision of the Executive Committee is final.
(this one refers to the powers of the Executive Committee)

The select schools issued a statement after their meeting:

“The representatives from the designated ‘select schools’ that attended the called meeting on Feb. 21 at the LHSAA office believe the articles passed related to splitting the playoffs for football violate the LHSAA constitution. In addition, many other points were raised at the meeting that call into question both the substance and speed of the LHSAA proposal to change rules that have served our student-athletes well for decades. We strongly urge the executive committee to exercise their authority and overturn the recent vote.”

quote:

LHSAA Executive Director Kenny Henderson's statement-

“We are going to study what they requested and look at the constitutionality of what was passed,” he said. “And we’re going to go forward with some (online) surveys (for select schools) about playoff formats for the select schools. (LHSAA attorney Brad Lewis) is going to look at this, and he’ll more than likely consult a constitutional law attorney.”

The funny thing is it says no member of the Executive Committee shall act if the matter involves their school or Parish. Are there any parishes out there not affected?

This bullshite split will last 1 season in its current format before its amended dramatically or scrapped altogether, or there's a small chance that select schools do leave the LHSAA. Bookmark this post, because what I'm saying will happen. Deal with it.

Have a great day!

John Curtis Christian School has existed for 50 years. I'm not a fan, alumnus or anything else. People, myself included as a student of a district opponent in the 1980s, have been talking trash, and running our mouths about how much they cheat.

If so, why has NO ONE EVER filed charges or forced the LHSAA to act.

IF it HAS been done, I apologize for not knowing it.

Mr. Ron Brocato and Ed Daniels, writing in New Orleans' The Clarion Herald over the last few weeks have stated it. No one has pressed charges, or whatever it is you do through the LHSAA, against JCCS. So do we all "just know they cheat" because they're so dominant? That's the problem with all of this.

These childish, petulant principals blow up the playoffs of the most popular prep. sport in the state, all because of one or even two schools. Instead of taking action against the one, they throw all their toys out of the baby carriage and really screw up, a lot.
