The teams that are going to pick him aren't taking him in the first round so money isn't an issue. He will go in the 3-5 round and with his instincts on the football field he's a good gamble. If you told me I could get a pure playmaker with ability to play DB and ST (he was a great gunner and returner with very sure hands), who was a heisman finalist, in the 4th round, I would jump all over that pick. Pay him a minimal contract and force him to prove himself during that first contract. It would be a steal. It's the kind of move the Patriots make all the time.

Although I expect Goodell will send out a memo warning teams "about character", Mathieu on the field was a consummate player. Just take his measurables (height, weight, speed) and balance that with plays he had no business making, and he has to be up in the Jerry Rice range of maximizing potential.

No way Mathieu even comes close to Polamalu. He is not similar. Polamalu has 25 lbs on TM. Troy hits like a linebacker and can run like a safety. Mathieu is a special teams player and back up corner in the NFL. Polamalu is a pro-bowler.

How many collge football players did not smoke pot or get drunk while in college? How many of these did it in High school too?
Hopefully, when they get outta college they grow up. If not, then they will not be in "the league" long, if at all.
