Spoilers for anyone that hasn't beaten the third game:

So we know that the enormous moon creatures were using the markers to initiate convergence in order to feed/grow themselves. However, is it ever established why every single marker seems incredibly hostile to the human race except for the Red Marker in the first game? I know it caused dementia and insanity and contained the necromorph code, but its attempts to manipulate people was so that it could be put back on its pedestal in order to to pacify the Hive Mind. It's also the only marker that seems to emit the Dead Space around it that keeps the necromorphs at bay.

Any thoughts for the contradiction?

I just know that the brethren moons seek to create more of themselves to strengthen the signal.

I think they keep the necromorphs at bay for a bit so the "cattle" can build more marker copies, especially for far flung space faring races. More opportunity to spread the signal. I can't say for sure.

the endgame is expansion, that's the most I can get from it. I haven't closely examined the audio and text logs though.

It's starting to sound like a horror themed mass effect, with the cycles and extinction events.

the story is awesome in the series but it's as though the nature of the marker changes dramatically from the first game to the second.

Do we just tack it up to it being a bad reverse engineering job or what? The "dead space" it emitted was the reason for the title of the series so I find it odd that they'd just disregard it completely.

Oh yeah, and wtf happened with the telepathic douchenozzles in white coats? And the whole Lexine story arc? Lame as hell if they just dropped it.
