New Orleans celebrates its 300th birthday in 2018. Having a Super Bowl for it. Would be a great present.

And he should be tired after winning his fifth straight SB.

Does anyone remember when MNF was delayed like 2 hours because Candlestick Park had a massive power outage?

Yes. Transformer substation blew.

Let's hope they determine the cause of this blackout and can assure that it will not happen again.

They've already determined a cause. Too much power going into the building.

It will be remembered but it will just be a footnote and it will be considered a freak occurrence. it happens.

You would suck at forensic investigation. Have we narrowed down a cause for the power surge? What are the probabilities of recurrance? What can be done to prevent future occurances?

There will be no mention of "and what a great time was had by all in NOLA that week."

Good thing the reason they pick host cities for Super Bowls is for the people who go to have a great time, not for that city to look favorable on an NFL Films recap in 20 years

Ask the people who were at the game if they would have preferred skipping out on the New Orleans before- and after-parties in exchange for not having the half hour delay

All I am saying is that when you're watching the NFL Films recap in 20 years ... it will probably show footage of the lights going out ... and then the game turning from a 28-6 blowout into a damn good game.

The blackout was a memorable moment and part of history in one of the biggest sports spectacles in the World....seen by millions if not hundreds of millions.

Don't be so friggin' defensive.

yeah but I think history will actually be kind to it...kind of like when the network showed Heidi instead of the game. The blackout created drama where there was none. Made a game better and ultimately more memorable. Nobody is going to watch it in 20 years and be like "man that blackout really sucked...it was absolute bullshite that NOLA got to host those superbowls after it."

game rating went UP during the "blackout"

Damn right it did.

People react the same way to that as they do to a car wreck.

Gotta see what happens next.

Zactly. Plus the ratings went up because people KEPT THE GAME ON CBS while they went to get more refreshments, food, take a squirt, etc.
Also, the ratings went up because of curiousity, they wanted to see if the cause was something dastarly, or they were just anticipating the lights coming back on any second, then any minute.

99% of the peeople that changed the channel turned it right back when the power was restored.

Also, the "blackout helped the 49'ers" bs is a copout. These are professionals, you know SF was going to make a run eventually, blackout or not..
