Brand new monitor issues

I just got the Asus VS239H-P to connect to my laptop. The picture works fine but I am not getting any sound through the built in speakers. I have been looking for solutions but nothing yet. this is what I know

have you installed the display software/driver that came with the monitor? could be a setting in there with the volume and way display acts over HDMI....

No software came with it so I am trying to looking for drivers on their website. Unfortunately their website sucks.

I just talked to Asus tech support and according to them I have everything done correctly, it is just a faulty monitor. So now I have to swap it out and delay this even longer

Was the problem that you still needed to connect the separate audio cable?

guessing you didn't hook up the aux cable?

I got model numbers mixed up when looking at the specs, vs239 and vs238. My monitor has the grated side panels that would normally have speakers in them however there actually arnt any. So long story short I spent a long time trying to make speakers that don't exist work. 
Even the tech support guy missed it... Got to love when it turns out to be something that simple and makes you feel like a moron.

lol, well you aren't missing anything. Monitor speakers are never good.

I knew they weren't and that is why I didn't pay attention to them while I was shopping around. I didn't want anything faulty on a brand new monitor though.
