500 Days isn't even in the ballpark. JGL wasn't shite compared to Cooper in SLP.

What's a general synopsis of it?

Pat (Cooper) catches his wife, Nicki, cheating with the history teacher with tenure, beats the shite out of him. Finds out he's bi polar, so part of his plea bargain is he goes to a mental hospital. Nicki has filed a restraining order, but Pat still believes they're in love. Pat's best friend's wife's sister (Tiffany (Lawrence)) is a recent widow who has been fired because she's a vulnerable whore. Pat and Tiffany meet at a dinner at his best friend's house. They eventually make a deal that if Pat will dance with Tiffany in a competition, Tiffany will get letters to Nicki because her sister is friends with Nicki. Also, Pat's dad was laid off, so he's a bookie trying fund a restaurant. He believes Pat is a good luck charm, and thinks Pat spending time with Tiffany will ruin his juju. I want go any further because it will ruin the end. Kind of a predictable ending, but it's really well done.

Garden State is one of the best movies made in that quirky genre. It's funny and has one of the best soundtracks and Natalie portman is girl of my dreams in this movie.

Garden State is the weakest imo.

I keep trying to give it a try...but its always "meh" to me.

Way late to the game, but the wife dragged me into SLP yesterday. I was thinking that I was going to be miserable in some stupid romantic comedy. Boy was I wrong.

Somebody is going to win an oscar for that movie.

Watched it last night and found nothing special about it. It was a conventional love story with two unconventional characters. Cooper and Lawerence both had their moments, but neither blew me away.

It was a pretty forgettable movie, while 500 at least threw you for a loop at the end.

Are you serious? There was nothing conventional about it at all, other than the fact the two lock lips at the end.

If that plot is supposed to be "conventional", I'd hate to see what your life is all about.

To each his own, I guess. I thought the acting was top notch in SLP.

Everyone saw the end coming from a mile away. Like I said, their lives were different from other movies.

Two crazies meet, one takes some time to realize its more than just friends, conflict, happily ever after.

Well shite, what did you expect in a romance dude? It's not like you go to see some mind blowing plot twist that leaves you questioning your life for an hour afterwards. That's why I was expecting to be bored out of my mind, but pleasantly surprised.

I thought it was very well written and acting was great in it. And I'm a pretty harsh critic when it comes to movies.

Like I said, to each his own.

There's a movie in the OP's title that did just that after seeing it. [500] left me saying, wow, didn't see that coming. I'm not saying it was itself Oscar worthy, but I enjoyed the story.

See, after all the nominations and what this board was saying, I went in expecting to be blown away.
