The Broncos made Bunkley their 3-4 nose tackle at the beginning of the season and he instantly thrived. The Florida State product had three stops – plays he ended alone -- in Denver’s season-opener against the Raiders and never quit stuffing the run. Bunkley for the year had 32 stops in 485 snaps. No other defensive tackle with fewer than 500 snaps had as many as 23. Bunkley's penchant for ending plays by himself earned him a plus-28.4 grade in the ground game and the No. 1 overall ranking among defensive tackles against the run.

He was nicknamed "the destroyer" on that team.

i didn't realize how good he was in Denver before they switched to the 4-3. If we're happy with him, this gives us a lot of freedom in the draft. (LB or OT)

I've posted this before, it is from Profootball Focus when he was a FA:

quote:

Pro Football Focus Top 101 players of 2011:

69. Brodrick Bunkley, DT, Denver Broncos

There wasn’t a player in the league like Bunkley last year. He may as well have had his position renamed ‘destroyer’ because it seemed he was sent out on the field simply to dismantle the center across from him; so good was he the Patriots essentially schemed to get him off the field.

Anyone remember when Bunkley threw up the 225 bench press 51 times (edit: 44 actually, my bust) at the combine?

Everything that guy just said was bullshite. Denver was mostly a 4-3 defense in 2011. You can watch his highlights from the Raiders and Jets games here:

They only occasionally line up with 3 down linemen, and he rarely ever lines up over center. He was definitely a 1-tech, 4-3 DT.

THRILLHO is right. He was listed as a NT, but they played a 4-3. Whoever wrote that he was in a 3-4 has no idea what they are talking about. Again, people thought they played 3-4 because of Von Miller and Dumerville, but Miller was a regular 4-3 OLB who lined up as a DE in passing situations. Even this year with their 4-3 defense, one of Denver's 2 starting DT's is listed as a NT. Bunkley was a great run stuffer, but in a 4-3.
