Raspberry Pi
Posted by brucevilanch on 1/24/13 at 2:35 pm00
I'm thinking about buying just because they're so cheap and I like having new gadgets to tinker with. Have you guys seen any cool applications for them? I saw that XBMC has software for it now. That would make it a pretty convenient and cheap HTPC.

I have one with Linux. They are slow but really cool. I wish I could code to get into the real fun of them.
I tried using it to stream but encountered screen tearing at times.

Did you buy the starter kit or the plain $35 dollar one?b That sucks about the screen tearing because that was pretty much what I was going to use it for. Have you found anything worth using it for?

I purchased the following:
$35 unit
Red round case
A power adapter/brick
I think that was it. Total was about 60bucks. I can't search at work right now so not even sure what they still offer. This is a while back.

Already had spare hdmi, sd card and used a Bluetooth adapter that was capatable with Linux. Just had to use a wired USB keyboard for installation of coarse.

Thanks a lot.
I'll just get it and the case. I have everything else except for the Bluetooth adapter. Just watched a video of a guy using it as a router and running it bridged to a repeater for the access point. Pretty awesome.

The case I got was like the only decent looking one off their site. They have a couple places that sell cases but thought they were to pricey.

yeah for sure. I may get tired of it after a week but $35 isn't a lot to spend for a weekend of fun.
ETA: I found a case for like 10 dollars a minute ago.

Yea same thought I had. 35bucks for a nerdy gadget isn't bad.
Eta fck I would like to go on with more detail but hate typing on my phone.

haha I appreciate the help. Bump this thread if you remember anything or are around when you're not on your phone. I'll update it with things I find when I get mine in.

I wonder if there's a way to stack two of them together.
