Judging by their defense...I'd say no.

Just an FYI, Texas started calling themselves DBU a while ago. Doesn't hurt that they also had back-to-back Thorpe winners, the only other school ever to do so.

<InsertPosition>U is stupid because it's completely subjective, but arguing over who is first and/or acting like it's somehow "original" is pathetic.

GerryDinardo this is a tongue in cheek post... however, I personally thought LSU held the DBU title because not only did our DBs win the Jim Thorpe Award for outstanding DB of the year in 2010 and 2011 but they also won the Chuck Bednarik Award for Defensive Player of the Year...that fact alone takes the "Who owns DBU" discussion out of the subjective and places it into the Objective...

This is one of those titles / compliments that must be bestowed by others and not claimed by the aspirant to have any legitimacy at all.

And I agree - the notion of Anything-U is patter.

Mack Brown couldn't even correctly evaluate the talent in his own state. They went into DeSota HS and grabbed the wrong CB. Jalen Mills ended up at LSU and is now freshman all-SEC and freshman all-American according to some media outlets.

The kid they took, Bryson Echols, isn't a scrub though. I don't believe he's as good as Mills, but they also didn't have a pressing need to start a freshman in their secondary.

Mills was never going to red-shirt even before Mathieu got kicked off the team. David Jenkins and Ronnie Vinson both transferred after he passed them up on the depth chart.

After the last four games of the season, I'd say it is up for grabs.

Texas has the most Dbacks starting on nfl rosters than any other university. As of the last 5-6 years LSU has been catching up. The DBU moniker was bestowed on UT in the early 2000's. Akina puts a lot of them in the nfl. LSU has proven that it is a place for elite Dbacks to go! Texas D is struggling, hopefully we can right the ship! I hope that LSU can keep up its winning ways! Would love to see a Texas-LSU matchup in the next few years.

I was really hoping for an LSU/Texas matchup this bowl season to be honest. Texas would have showed up to play for a game as big as that, regardless of the real importance of the game.

That would only happen if Texas drops the LHN and joins the SEC. Deloss Dodds cannot pull the academic card anymore. SEC is now better than B12 in that category as well. Not that it was a valid excuse in the first place.
