Assistant Coaching Question in College Football?

Does anyone know the rules on the number of assistant coaches a team can have, or is there even a real limit. LSU has the current staff of:
Greg Studrawa- OC and O-Line
John Chavis- DC and Linebackers
Steve Kragthorpe- QB's
Brick Haley- D-Line
Corey Raymond- Defensive backs
Frank Wilson- Running backs and Recruiting coordinator
Steve Ensminger- Tight Ends
Adam Henry- WR's
Thomas Mcgaughey- Special Teams
Tommy Moffitt- Strength and Conditioning
Also Justin Vincent while not an assistant coach serves as assistant director of player personnel.
What I wanted to know is if LSU would have been able to hire Larry Porter and make him either running backs or recruting, I do realize Frank Wilson is one of the best in the college game at what he does. Also hypothetically is Ron Cooper could have been hired as an assistant coach maybe co-devensive backs coach or just associate head coach.

Pretty sure it's 9
ETA: Grad Assistants don't count, and neither does a S&C coach since he isn't exclusive to the football program

as TheNino said, it's 9 assistant coaches. you also get 2 GAs, and I know we've had some other younger guys who are breaking into coaching serve in various capacities (quality control coaches, asst S&C coaches, etc.) .
to answer your question, no there was no room to bring in guys like Porter or Cooper. I'd love to be able to bring somebody like Ben Wilkerson back.

FBS- 1 HC
9 full time assistants
4 GA's two on each side of the ball. They changed to 4 this year. A GA also now must be no more than 7 years past his bachelors degree.

This season that just past. Not sure who the LSU GA's are. A lot of universities do not list them on their websites.

This. The full time assistants label is for "on field" assistants. You see a lot of colleges take former coaches and put them in football operations roles so that there is still a "coach" talking to the kids at all times.
