Australia sucks for consumers. But you can pay for higher limits... as exists everywhere for anything...

I don't see that being an issue as HD signals currently run into the home on the same lines that bring us the Internet... Unless the provider chooses to.

here are my 2 cents on the subject.
i work for one of the big 5 cable/satellite companies in the programming department and have for the past 8 years.
this sounds great in theory but i worry that they wont have every channel available. when companies negiotiate contracts they make the DirecTVs and Time Warners take all the channels, they bundle them so they HAVE to take them.
costs are getting out of hand. everyone is raising their rates next month so get ready.
DirecTV is going up 5% after going up 5% last Feb so thats 10% in 12 months. Their premium DVR fee is going to $23 a month. its getting out of hand.
this has been tried many times and failed. i really dont think it will be a game changer

The mindset you just posted is why there hasn't been enough innovation in this sector. "This is the way is has to be" is a terrible excuse.
I'm going back to rabbit ears; $1200 a year for cable and internet is ridiculous for a decent package.

It is ridiculous. I agree. But, any industry that has spent billions of dollars in infrastructure isn't going to lay down and watch their revenues trickle away. The truth is, for the forseeable future, I don't see any game changing or cost saving methods for the masses.
The tech savy and money conscious, sure, for the time being, but the the family of 4 in the suburbs where the wife wants to watch her HGTV, and E channel, and the kids are watching Disney, fox, and Nickelodeon...won't be saving money any time soon IMO.

I did that 3 years ago. I don't miss cable at all.

But I don't need 120 channels. I need maybe 2 or 3 cable channels live, local channels, and a few shows that I can watch on demand.

I'm at $2000/mo but I really don't want to sacrifice the convenience of just turning on the cable box.
