Ok so I'm 25 working for my family business which I hope to some day fully own (which is part of my investment) but now it's time for me to start investing/planning for the long term.

I'm thinking ab an IRA (traditional) and maybe some municipal bond(s) for the short term. Would the experts say I'm doing the right thing or should I consider putting my money elsewhere??

Thanks!

Just find a good advisor that can cruise around and find the best options.

At age 25 you need to go aggressive. Muni bonds are for the old folks.

In general, I have 3 types of mutual funds:

Equity (90% of better in the stock market);

Balanced (example is 60% equity and 40 % fixed); and

Fixed Income (bonds - muni, high yield, investment grade, etc)

Here are my Equity MF's - FLPSX, VDAIX, VFIAX, VEIPX, VGHAX, VDIGX. Also looking at Smead Value (SMVLX) and VHDYX.

Or you could buy stocks straight up. I have GE, which has been described as a mutual fund. I was burned by financial stocks I bought in 2/08, so I have been moving toward in MF's.
