Um. What do you mean by latest?

Book 5 came out early this year.

Book 6 should come out in 2018, 6 months after Chubbles' death.

He will never finish the series.

He's old and out of shape. Massive Heart Attack within the next few years is my bet

You're giving old Georgie Poo too much credit. He has another Wildcards trilogy to oversee and the Jets suck so he's going to take most of 2013 off. He has a warehouse full of Hurricane Sandy damaged calendars to sell. That's going to take time.

The old bastard is going to die getting a handie on the casting couch of GoT before he finishes this series, but the series has been going downhill anyway. Maybe if someone else finishes it they won't feel the need to frick everything up just so they can yell, "Gotcha!"

Considering he's put out 2 books in the main series in the past 12 years, and he's old and obese...no one should be encouraged.

Started the series in 98 and I gave up hoping for its completion years ago

Started in 99. The level of success it's achieving is shocking.

I might give you 5, but 4 sucked. 5 was by no means worth the wait. Having read a bunch of Martin's other stuff, I can already see indications that he's going to pull one of his in/famous gotchas.

He's pissed all the fans figured out his big reveal, and now, he's going to change everything around to the detriment of the story.

He's immensely talented, but he is in severe need of an editor to ride his arse.

When authors begin to wax poetic about food and turtles, they need a damn editor.

I guess I'm just sick of epic fantasy. I find old school, tight, stream lined fantasy so much more appealing these days. Less exposition more action.

I seriously doubt we ever see book 6 unless the recent popularity really lights a fire under Martin's arse and renders him down a bit.

I don't know...recent popularity probably slows him down because he does more book signings and shite. I don't think he does any writing when he's traveling.

This.

Call it hard headed denial, but I'm convinced that Jon is Lyanna's son and any diversion from that plot is out of spite.

Has he released a 4th Dunk & Egg novella yet? I don't really mind those, some good back story.

For sure

Lately he's trying to throw out too many twists and red herrings, and it isn't conducive to the story.
