Lewis Holtby will be available on a free after this season

I think Schalke will decide not to sell in the January window because they want to make a run at the Champions League. Holtby has already said that he's gone after the season.
He has an English father so two of the places he's been linked to the most are Arsenal and Liverpool. If he goes to Liverpool, it's gotta be because he was a fan growing up or something. I think Schalke will qualify for the Champions League but I don't see Liverpool doing that.
Another rumor is that Bayern would offer him a contract. Bayern has quite the logjam at cm/cam but if they plan on selling Robben, Muller will play a lot more wing which would mean that Kroos needs more CAM cover.
He's only 22 so whoever lands him will be getting a very good player who hasn't entered his prime yet.

I know his father is from Merseyside and a big Everton Supporter... That may be an option to slot in behind Jelavic, if Felliani leaves...

I don't mean this as a slight to Everton but he's too big of a player to sign with Everton on a free unless he really loves the club. I think a Champions League club will offer him. Arsenal may be a good spot, assuming they sneak into the top 4 like they usually do

I know LFC have been linked with him, but there were doubts over his support of Everton...
He'll be an absolute steal for free and should have many lining up to have him sign a pre contract next month...

I knew he was a Scouser but I didn't know that he was of the Everton variety..

I don't know much about him. LFC are desperately trying to find an AM to take the reigns once Gerrard retires. Shelvey looks most likely, but I'm very very skeptical. I keep hearing that Arsenal need another CM, but there doesn't seem to be a ton of room in that midfield especially if Ox is moved centrally.

United can always use a young mid with some experience. Someone to replace Scholes and Giggs...Anderson's probably leaving, too.

United will be in for Götze or Eriksen.

Holtby, in my opinion, is a poor man's Toni Kroos. Very good as an attacking mid and good as a holding midfielder, more dangerous at CAM. Saying he's a poor man's Kroos isn't a slight to him either because when Kroos is on, he's world class. I actually think he would fit in well with Brendan Rodgers.

Will United spend the obscene amount of money it would take to get Götze?

That'd be a shame. United needs to lock him in the gym at night

Wouldn't surprise me

He'd only be a solid seven or eight Bebes

Or Strootman.

He's 20 and under contract until 2016. I can't see them selling for anything less than €40 million.

Thought the speculation was his release clause was less than that?

I think around 37 mil euros was the number floating around.

Well they just spent £25m (€30m) on a 29 year old.
