Otis Redding and most of his band died in a plane crash.

Afraid I gotta go with Clyde McPhatter and The Drifters on that one.

If you're ever in Memphis, go visit Stax. It's in the middle of the hood, and kind of hard to find, but well worth the visit. I went there and stood right in the studio in front of the mike where Otis recorded "Dock of the Bay".
Kind of a thrilling moment.

Oh, and they also have Isaac Hayes' solid gold Cadillac, which is quite a sight to behold.
