The thing I love about the woods is removing myself from the fast-paced, socially-driven, stressful city lifestyle. It's nice to just relax for a few hours without a care in the world.

The wild is where I go for therapy. Going to walk some lonely place tomorrow, it's been a rough week.

There's been studies done recently that showed that just being around forests or whatever outdoor thing can envelope you increase the health benefits of exercise. Basically your stress drops faster.

Now that's a big ole duh to us that do this kind of stuff, but well....

John Muir has a lot of quotables on this kind of stuff.

quote:

Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul alike.

quote:

“In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.”

Great post. I was with family this holiday that I haven't seen in quite some time and also saw some old friends of the family from when I was a small child. I enjoyed my time tremendously and just getting away from the normal everyday routine is great sometimes. Getting out in the woods is my absolute favorite thing to do. It is the what I'm most passionate about. I like to fish but it is just not like being in the woods during the winter for me.
