Gunsmithing in BR
Posted by MadtownTiger on 11/24/12 at 10:55 am00
Anyone here had any good smithing done by someone in Baton Rouge. I have my SBEII that I need the stock cut down on cause I have midget arms and can't shoulder it consistently in the same spot. Was thinking about going to Jim's, but all I've heard is they're are a bunch of assholes though I've never dealt with them. Been to Hebert's but wasn't impressed when I had them teflon coat my barrel which lasted a year.

ya thats another issue, I leave for Navy basic in two weeks. Just wanted to see if I could have it done relatively quickly somewhere. Want to hunt the next two weekends before I head off. But I still have my 20 gauge that I fit well with.

Try barking irons on airline near barringer Forman they're relatively new but do really good work. And quick turnaround

Does anyone make a youth stock for your SBEII?
I looked for you, but couldn't find anything...If available that would be your best option...

Went and ran by Barking Irons, guy there seemed pretty cool, seemed to know his stuff. Fit me up and found out just putting on a 1/2 inch recoil pad will fix me up perfect. So thanks for the advice.

So instead of cutting it down, he made it longer?

I just had Jims install a new bolt knob(cut off the old one then machine thread it for the new one) on my remy 700. They were quick and they were about 20 dollars cheaper than the other places I called. But I've heard some of their other services are more expensive. When youre working around firearms all day you should expect some people to be assholish. I know I would having to deal with some of theses democrats around BR.

No the SBEII came with a 1 1/4 recoil pad I believe. because Im shrinking my length of pull by 3/4 of an inch by throwing on a 1/2 recoil pad and taking off the 1.25.
The way he had me fitted was place the butt of my gun on my bicep and cradle it their straight up. My arm was in an "L" with my forearm going straight up and holding the shotgun straight up. With it like that I had to see where my trigger finger laid and it was on the trigger guard but I couldn't get my finger all the way around. I took a picture after all of this, figuring it would be hard to explain...
I dont know how legit this fitting is but the 1/2 pad will be perfect for me.
