I'm currently playing catchup. I only have about 4 episodes of season 2 left to watch.

I know that at the CDC they were told it was a virus of some kind. In the "Guts" episode they made sure not to get any blood on their skin in order to not get infected. That was pretty much the last time they worried about it. They've just been hacking and slashing away at them with blood splattering everywhere. Shooting them with blood splattering everywhere. They don't seem to be too worried about that anymore. They just worry about getting bitten.

Do they ever really explain how the virus is transferred via bite? I guess they are basically a big open wound, and when they bite someone it transfers to them via the bite wound. But wouldn't there be some instances where infection doesn't occur? For instance, if someone who just turned into a zombie and doesn't really have any open wounds or decaying flesh, how would the bite transfer the virus? Is it in the saliva?

I'm looking a little too deep into this, obviously.

Everyone already has the virus. When you die, you become a zombie.

Thanks, just making sure I didn't miss anything.

Didn't feel like looking it up in case I'd come across a spoiler

why do people start threads asking answers to tv shows when they are in the middle of viewing them?

You are destined to have it ruined for you. Just watch the show and it'll answer it. If not, then no one else knows the answer either.

If everyone has the virus and you don't become a zombie until you die, then why did the Black dude's(the one that found Rick early in the first season) wife die from just getting bit by a zombie? He explained to Rick the whole process of his wife's illness and then death and transformation to zombie.

Why did the virus kill her and no one else? They all have it right?

So here's your answer and please stop asking or you will get massively spoiled....

The bite does not transmit the virus, it just kills you.

The bite itself doesn't kill you. When the virus starts coursing through your veins it slowly starts killing you. When you die, you turn into a zombie.

Semi-Spoiler

Later on someone gets bit on the foot. Someone else chops their foot off. The bitten person was able to live because they cut the foot off before the virus spread.
However, if you from something else, no matter what, you turn into a zombie.

Half true. Everyone is already infected. A zombie bite, much like any bite, if left untreated will get infected and can kill you. Once you die, you reanimate.

This. A normal human bite is highly highly infectious. Much more so than say a dog. Add in decaying flesh and no modern healthcare and you have a perfect recipe for infection. However if you can prevent a standard infection then you can live.

The zombie bite doesn't necessarily mean death. However death ALWAYS equals zombie.
