Trent was straight up handcuffed in recruiting. After the previous sanctions he was told not even the slightest questionable recruiting would be tolerated

bull. fricking. shite. Dale Brown era ended in 1997. Trent became head coach eleven years later.

I'm excited. however, i want to see these guys on campus before i get overly worked up. appears we are going after talented b.b. players as we should. however, a lot of them have been high academic risk.

I have been worried about this as well. But I don't think Martin or Mickey have any issues. Not sure about Quarterman.

Not to mention that he hasn't even had a season yet. He was coming in after the fact and just trying to get bodies to fill out uniforms.

I know I say this every time Trent comes up in one of these threads, but it's because it still shocks me. I can't believe how he never bothered to use all of his coaching staff spots or all of the allotted scholarships. It's like he was intentionally handicapping himself.

and then he'd hire Lyn Nance to fill one bench spot. The same Lyn Nance who didn't even make it to all of our away games

Mickey's ineligibility has nothing to do with grades, it's from transferring schools to follow his coach.

No doubt, and most of the assistants he had (Guerrinoni, Scott, Robinson) came with little to no past experience in college coaching. From the outside looking in, it almost seemed like Trent underestimated how difficult this job would be.

Robinson

Started his HC career with a 103-65 loss to Gonzaga last Friday. He's at Southern Utah, which can't be an easy place to win. They play Wisconsin-Green Bay tonight.

John Brady brought in one highly ranked class while he was here. Trent was just so terrible at recruiting

FIFY

Either the Lamont Roland class or Jaime Lloreda class was rated number 1, cant remember which. The Brandon Bass class was top 5, The Tasmin Mitchell class was top 15, He also brought in Anthony Randolph and Marcus Thornton in one class and Big Baby and Tyrus in another.

Big Baby, Tyrus Thomas, and Garrett Temple were one 3 person class. Two recruits directly on campus, and the other .4 miles away from it. I'm not really trying to say anything with that, but it is an interesting fact that to recruit the cornerstone class of a Final Four team, the coaches didn't even have to go more than a mile round trip.

I can't wait until he gets some depth, starts winning big games, goes on Deep tourney runs, brings the excitement back, and reclaims our LSU basketball history! (and then has a bad year and some adversity so I can sceam for him to be fired).

For I am RANTARD.

But I digress....

I thought Mickey was ineligible because of a transfer, not grades.

EDIT - Didn't see Brunnins reply

He came from a school that recruits for itself outside of the basketball court. Maybe Alleva viewed that as a positive with our APR problems, thinking he could connect with players and their families who are searching for a coach who places academics as a high priority. Only problem is there aren't too many of those kids looking to play basketball in the SEC and LSU isn't Stanford. And beyond that Trent didn't seem interested in doing the song and dance for any recruits and wouldn't hire assistants with southern ties to do it for him. It is puzzling and frustrating to look back at it, glad we have come out all right so quickly.

No reason why a school with LSU's resources shouldn't be competitive in college B-ball.
