I was pulling for Tommy during the whole movie. Abused by his father, abandoned by his brother, took care of his beaten and dying mother, and a war hero. Sure, Brendan has it rough as well, but he shouldn't be living above his means (I kid).

Why did Tommy have to lose? It's not like he needed the money, he was going to donate it to his fellow Marine and best friend's widow. Someone please explain this to me?

He let Brendan win. At least that was what I got out of the ending.

Brendan is his blood brother, has kids, is married. Blood is thicker than water.

I guess he finally forgave Brendan for not being there when he was growing up and his brother's current life with a family was important to Tommy.

This was almost a negligible point in the plot. It's not like he was running and hiding from the authorities the entire movie. It was mentioned a couple of times via TV broadcast, and that's it.

I can buy that, for the reasons you listed. But what if he had not broken his arm? Would he just let Brendan knock him out?

I did not get that at all. I though the exact opposite. he would never quit, even after blowing out his shoulder or elbow (i don't quite remember) tommy kept coming after him. he, essentially, made brendan beat him.

he was going to be arrested as soon as the fight was over. they would not have let him keep the money.

I don't think he broke his arm. I think he popped it out of the socket.

I don't think he would have let Brendan just knock him out. I think he'd buy his time and wait for a submission move and then eventually tap, like he did.

Such a good movie.

True. I think I'm getting there.

They at least should have had an alternate ending where Tommy won, just so we could see "what if."

Hate to say it, but its this.

I mean I GUESS I could by Tommy going so crazy that he let his guard down against his brother and he got caught slipping. (thus leading to hurting his shoulder)

I GET that they wanted to him to "fight till the death" until his brother told him, "I love you Tommy". No doubt, Tommy was not giving up until he heard that or he would have kept fighting.

With that said, they had the matchups wrong. Why have Tommy destroy that one dude in 10 seconds? Why not have Brendon fight him. Then have Tommy fight Koba instead. Make it a bloody war and Tommy is worn out by the time he faces Brendon in the final match.

Tommy destroyed the competition too easily for him to go out like that. They should have matched him with Koba to show he slowed down a little bit.

This + the fact Tommy was a WRESTLING prodigy in his childhood. Funny how Brendan turns into the submissive juggernaut and Tommy is nothing but a heavy handed, hit it and quit, one and done brawler...
