A little over a year ago, we reported that comedian Dane Cook had inked a deal with NBC to star in his own sitcom. The wheels then turned and out came the show Next Caller, with Cook starring as a chauvinist shock jock who gets paired up with romance-loving, NPR female co-host. The show was slated for midseason.

Now Deadline is reporting that NBC is pulling the plug on the entire project, with executives citing, after filming four episodes out of a six episode order, that "creatively the series was not going in the direction they had hoped for." Collette Wolfe, Jeffrey Tambor, Joy Osmanski and Wolé Parks also starred.

The NBC promo you would have seen.

For what it's worth, we had a chance to see the pilot episode a few months back and...yeah. No one will miss this.

Wow. Someone needs to get Jeffrey Tambor into something watchable soon. Welcome to the Captain was good to me, but apparently to no one else.

This is great news. I can't imagine all of the promos NBC would have run
