What, did Johnny DeAngelo open a new place?

That's exactly what it reminded me of...good, northeast pizzeria pizza run by people that have no idea what they're doing.

I went Wednesday night just to try a slice, figured they'd have some already prepared but they baked an entire fresh pizza just to give me my slice so I thought that was very nice. After I got my slice they were locking up (close at 8pm M-Th) so I guess the staff ate the rest

The pizza was really good I thought, prices are reasonable, went back yesterday to try the meatball sandwich and it was also really good. I live very close by so I'll be going back for sure.

Gets confusing when people ask about places on Jefferson and Airline with no mention of if the place is in BR or NOLA.

I am glad you had a good experience. I guess I will give them another try. I was just not impressed. I hope they make it though.

GF and I ate there Thursday night. Our experience was similar to others I'm reading. Staff seems to be very disorganized, especially the two girls working the register. Those types of things seem to get worked out over time. Our impression of the pie was that it was pretty good. We kept it simple and got the neopolitan round pepperoni. The place was packed around 630pm and the wait was supposedly 25 mins but turned out to be more like an hour. The wait didnt bother me much but it was getting under some customers skin. One guy actually went up to the counter bitching and Papa Della came around the register and literally yelled at the guy "you see me back here working dont you?!? I make pizza to order so be patient, its not like im back there doing nothing!" He did later walk back out and looked like he apologized to the guy for yelling at him. shite was pretty freaking funny. I'll be back, close to the house and looking forward to trying the meatball sandwich.

I've heard the radio ads done by the guy with the annoying voice, claiming how they use real cheese and fresg crust and are real NY-style pizza. Looking forward to trying it; so far the best I've found is Pizza Roma in P-ville.

Went for lunch yesterday with the wife. Wanted to get a margherita pizza, but they were totally out of fresh mozzarella. Don't know how this happens at a pizza place that advertises itself as a true NYC pizzeria. Whole Foods is 5 minutes down the road, send somebody for some.

Eventually settled on one of the specialty pies with salami and basil, and a 14" plus a drink and a water was $17. Enjoyed the feel of the place with the checkered tablecloths, paper plates, perfect music and atmosphere for this type a place, and there's a counter to sit at. It definitely gives you a NYC pizzeria vibe.

Papa Della must have been in a good mood, because he wasn't yelling at anybody. But you can tell that he just comes across very gruff, and his "yelling" at somebody is probably just normal.

We had maybe a 15 minute wait for our pizza, which was absolutely reasonable. It came out piping hot. The crust was perfect. Thin, yet foldable and cooked to perfection. This is what I think of when I think NY pizza. Pizza was delicious. Odd that they didn't have shakers of red pepper or parmesan cheese on the tables. Was brought packets of each, which seems inefficient.

Sandwiches looked fantastic, and the table next to us got a pepperoni/mushroom pizza that looked delicious as well.

We'll definitely be back.

Finally tried this place last night.

Pros
The deep dish pizza w/ pepperoni and sausage was fantastic. I was actually shocked how good it was.
The garlic rolls we had beforehand were a nice treat while we waited for the pizza.

Cons
It took about 45 min for the pizza to come out, and they seemed a little under staffed. I don't mind waiting for quality though.

We'll be back.

I'm pretty much a certified addict of this place. I'm happy that I found a pizza place that reminds me of my childhood pizza place. I hope that they're doing well because I don't know where I would go if they closed.

Pretty sure it's well known that a deep dish takes a really long time. In fact, I want to say UNO provides a disclaimer to please allow 45 minutes if deep dish is ordered.

I didn't realize Mama Della's served them, makes me want to try bad.

Not a fan of deep dish pizzas at all, but Mama Dellas NY pizzas are by far the best or at least most authentic in town. Fresh killer ingredients, and hand tossed, it my favorite in town, and I'd say 1a would be Dolce Vita truck if for no other reason than that wood burning oven and the flavor it gives the pizza as well as texture. It's quite serious as well. I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

Mama della doesnt make deep dish pizzas. They do make sicilian pies, but those ARE NOT deep dish pizzas. No ny style pizza place thats worth a shite is making a chicago style deep dish pizza.

I thought that sounded odd from that place, but I thought maybe he's trying to fill a nitch.

I tried this place a few months ago and wasn't overly impressed. The cheese seemed to be of lower quality, but I may have caught it on a bad day. I'll be back to give them another chance.
