Woke up this morning and our 2 year old Shih-Tzu suddenly can't even stand up. When we put her on the ground, her legs shake and she immediately falls to the ground. She will try to stand back up and just tumble to the ground again. It's as if she just forgot how to stand up and walk over night. We can't get her to the vet until tuesday due to labor day tomorrow. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this in such a young dog? The only thing I have been told so far is that it could be a tick deep inside her ear that effects her balance and mechanics. Help please!

You should be able to get a vet, most have after hour phone numbers.I would call around until you can talk to one on the phone.

Could be lots of things from stroke to ear infection to seizure. Call around and you'll find a vet.

I have seen this several times. It was caused by a tick and it can be located anywhere on the dogs body. Remove the tick and dog should recover very soon. I hope this helps.

Take it to the vet. My dog did something similar to this about 6 months ago and it was a bacterial infection in his stomach from something he ate from the park.

$330 later, he was fine.

Tick on the spine shut down nervous system. Pulled the tick 24 hrs later good to go.
My friend said tick has taken down his horse before.

FYI Sherwood Animal Hospital is open 24 hours most BTR vets will refer you there. They have an agreement to treat animals and then refer you back to your vet

Dr. Stevens is one of the vets for Mike the Tiger

Don't want to scare you, because there are lots of explainations for it, but that's what happened to my dog when she crossed the point of no return with cancer.

Prob a tick. Worst case (not trying to scare you) but ask your vet to x-ray for any tumors. I had a golden whose tumor restricted blood flow enough to make the hind legs not function. Hope this is not the case, but do ask them to check. Good luck with everything!

Had that happen to our Shih Tzu, went out to the bathroom and collapsed.

Was diagnosed down at LSU with some neurological condition, they used an acronym but damn if I can remember the name.

Ex wife refused to let them euthanize, after weeks, he eventually regained some function, learning to walk again.

Eta: Granulomatous Meningoencephalitis (GME)

That was the diagnosis.
