Me and my dad are going through Hattiesburg this weekend and are curious what are some good places to eat at for lunch. (non chain type places of course) We have been to Mug shots and its good for a burger, just curious what are some other good places there for lunch.

Been there as well, great place to watch a game, but Im looking for a good sit down place to eat some good grub (nothing against Alumni house they have good food there) just looking for a different type of setting.

If you enjoy modern mexican, try Caliente Grill on Hardy St. They make everything from scratch and use local produce. Real nice people. Caliente on Facebook

Also, there is a new greek place called Old Athens Grill on hwy 49 across from the football stadium. Also opened by USM alums, one is the former owner of Mugshots and Bottling Company. Old Athens on Facebook

Other non chain places I'd consider are The End Zone, Po Boy Express (both on 4th street), Leatha's, Jutamas Thai restaurant on timothy lane, keg and barrel etc

there are many more, really depends on what you're looking for. i lived there for 5 years. im from new orleans, so this is a "new orleans" palette giving advice for hattiesburg cuisine.

A while back someone told me about some place in Hattiesburg called The Brownstone that they said was pretty good. Any experience with this place? Is it legit?

Brownstone's is located in downtown Hattiesburg. They do some good lunch specials. It wouldn't be a bad option. It's "upscale" by Hattiesburg's standards.. some other similar places downtown are 206 front and walnut circle. there is also bianchi's (pizza and such).

If you happen to be around on a thursday, people gather in the park downtown and sell their fare.. tamales, fresh produce and butchered livestock, arts and craft etc.. pretty cool little setup, i think the hours are like 2pm-6pm

Never heard of Robbie's. Conastoga is still open. i have never been there though, their shitty commercials shot on an old vhs camera really turn me off.

Circa 1992, Robbies was a sports bar with a great menu, Conasotga was "the Steak place"

Lethas was still 30 minutes away in coulmbia

Turtle Creek was just an idea on paper

I know where you are talking about.

On that strip of 49 alone there is Chesterfields, Villie's Subs, La Fiesta Brava, a new burger place that escapes me, Old Athens Grill, and Sakura. Thats between 4th st and hardy.
