[quote]NFL Draft Spotlight: Brandon LaFell, WR, LSU
March 29, 2010 @ 14:20:31
The 6-foot-3, 206-pound Brandon LaFell returned to LSU for his senior season in 2009 and figures to be one of the top receivers chosen in the draft. He finished his collegiate career with 175 receptions for 2,517 yards and caught 25 touchdown passes, including 11 this season.
Strengths
Big, muscular target at 6-foot-2 1/2 - long arms
Soft hands, catches fluidly in motion
Excellent downfield blocker
Body control: maneuvers well in traffic to make tough catches - finds the high point for catching the jump ball
Competitive, good character
A first-round grade?
Enough speed to pick up yardage after the catch
Upside
Weaknesses
Not a great vertical threat
Run-of-the-mill speed: 4.58 seconds in the 40-yard dash
Average athleticism for an NFL-bound wideout
Not a precise route-runner - rounds corners - but isn't terrible
Wasn't overly productive
Needs to work on coming out of breaks
Expected draft placement
LaFell is a borderline No. 1 receiver prospect. He has a lot of what you look for in a primary target, but pedestrian speed is going to hold him back even though he moves faster on the field than he times. Expect LaFell to come off the board in the early portion of the second round, and it will be a big surprise if he falls into the third.

Kind of makes you wonder if this guy saw JoJo play a single game.
don't get me wrong. I am a huge JoJo fan, but, damn, he dropped so many catchable balls as a Tiger, it drove me crazy. On the flip side, the guy could get open better than anyone I've seen in years.

I would say that was more in his early years than recently. Scouts look at improvement, not what he did as a Freshman/Sophomore.

He was only hit "in-stride" a half dozen times his whole career. Wait till he gets a precision QB. Kid is a star, he did as good as could be expected under the circumstances last year.

He reminds you of a very short white guy with one of the greatest set of hands in the NFL who didn't even get a scholarship coming out of high school?
ehh, I can see that.

one of the weirdest comparisons I have ever seen on TD.
welker is half JoJo's size and weight just to start things off

i guess a better comparison would be LaFell and Daryll Johnston

How about LaFell and D Bowe?

Much better. But I think LaFell will put forth more effort. Bowe is a freak though.
