Any good public golf course to play in N.O. North shore or Sidell

On the north shore, the only public course worth entertaining is Oak Harbor in Slidell. In N.O. I’m guessing TPC or Bayou Oaks is your best bet.

In NO area you can play bayou oaks (make sure you book the south course and not the north), TPC, and English Turn.
I’d normally recommend Audubon as a fun course to play but it’s in poor condition right now.

Sadly there is a huge void of public golf options on the Northshore.

Played Oak Harbor on Saturday and ran into a nice group of ten, frickING TEN on the par 3 fifteen and it took us an hour to finish from there.
Called the clubhouse and they said they would send someone over and they never did. The worst part is, we had an 11 am tee time. $53 for green fees and cart and I think another $10 or so for a bucket of balls so I am $63 in for that shithole.
Get there are 10:15, carry my cubs to the bag drop because you can't have carts in the parking lot but they don't really have a bag drop area that's useable to actually pull up and drop off your clubs. Finally make our way to the range, hit a couple dozen balls, chip some on the chipping green and head to the putting green and at 10:45 (15 minutes before our tee time) the starter starts yelling at me to "Hurry Up...it's time to go". I yelled back, "Sorry man, we tee off at 11 and I'm putting right now". Now, I am all for being ready to roll when it's your time and not pulling up to the first tee AT your tee time but this was fifteen minutes early and because they had a few no shows he wanted us to go early.
He fires right back..."C'mon man you've got to hurry" so I reluctantly head to the tee after 5 putts on those sand covered disasters.
The course was in decent shape but again, it's mind boggling to me how unnecessarily hard they try to make that course with their tee box placements. The course is already tough enough when the wind is blowing and it's not just how unnecessarily long they make some of the holes but putting the tee box markers on downslopes of tee boxes, on spots with virtually no grass, etc.
I am so done with public golf on the Northshore and after playing Beau Chene yesterday we've almost decided to pull the trigger on a membership there. I enjoy the game entirely too much to just not enjoy the experience more and public golf here flat out sucks.

Joe Bartholomew is usually in good shape.....but it's tough to play in a Kevlar vest.

I play at Beaver Creek mainly but I've played Carter, Oak Knoll, and Cam2 in the past 3 months.
Carter was by far the nicest and well kept but the pace of play was horrible. Greens were primo. Bunkers in great shape. Fairways beautiful. Pretty expensive though I believe $75 not including food.
Oak Knoll was solid at best. Green were good but the entire course was soaking wet even on a sunny afternoon with no rain in recent days. The layout is average but people working the place were very nice. Pace of play was good. After green fee, range balls, and some food pretty sure I spent around $60.
Cam2 has the most unique layout with the two 9's being like different courses. The front in short but the small greens make it hard to score. The back has rolling hills and alot of blind shots with larger greens. Greens rolled well and the course overall was in good shape and well worth the cheap price. Pace of play was good. 18 holes, range balls and food came out to around $50
Since Carter is closer to me I'll prolly be back there before the others but doubt I'll go back to Oak Knoll. Cam2 is just cheaper with a better layout and greens. May try a weekday at Carter so I'm not there 6 hours.

A pretty unknown course in Roseland near Amite. Played it 3 or 4 time now over past few years. Very fairly priced. They seem to understand what they have. A fun unique layout but it isn’t Carter Plantation and they aren’t trying to be it seems to me. Greens are usually solid and the last time I played they were excellent. Nothing special but a very solid fun course for the money.
