Dynamic of personality and leadership
Posted by FreddieMac

Guy puts LSU basketball on the map but wins no major titles, leaves the program in shambles and problems with NCAA. Squandered talent at a higher rate than Les Miles.
Guy puts LSU baseball on the map and wins 5 national championships, leaves program in great shape and it goes on to win another national championship. Maximized the potential of LSU baseball almost 20 years after he has retired.
One guy wants his name on the court and is mad someone else wants a name on the court.
Other guy is offered to have a brand new multi-million dollar stadium named after him but declines. Says it should stay the name after a dead war hero. Say, put my name on the field if you think you need to do something.
Does anyone besides me see the difference in the two people and why one was successful and the other was not?
This is a controversy because of Brown's ego. He should be supportive of Gunter, they did about the same in their respective sport.

I was a dale Brown fan. He made LSU basketball relevant for 20 years. Those were great times but even I don't think the court should have been named after him. However, since it was, it seems stupid to now want to put a women's coach's name on there too. That is what is stupid. Either leave it or shouldn't have done it at all. And Mulkey will surpass Gunter anyway. What then?

I lived in the 70's and those teams were a lot of fun!
Dale recruited incredible talent and some of those teams played extraordinary games.
But Dale was not a great coach and his teams consistently underperformed to their talent level.
And Dale left the program in a mess and under NCAA investigations.
Since he left, Dale has meddled in the program in ways that were not always constructive.
I am thankful for Dale Brown's contributions, but NO WAY should he have gotten naming rights to the court.

Never have and never will be in agreement with naming anything after Dale Brown. He was a good recruiter but ever won anything and his greatest accomplishment was taking an 11 seed to the final four.

So leave it. Bc they're not going to take his name off if it. What's done is done regardless of the merit. What we shouldn't do is continue down this slippery slope of naming shite for people simply bc they were here for a long time.
If they wanted Gunter's name on it then the time was last year at the same time they put Dale's on it. Now you wait a year later? Oh yeah you really honored Brown. What an honor to only a year later be told to make room for someone else to share what we just gave you.
Amateur all around.

I know you people live in fantasy land, but it's a HELL OF A LOT HARDER to win in college basketball than it is in college baseball.
There are maybe 25 programs that take baseball seriously, and possibly less back when Skip was dunking all over the midgets in his day.
Coach Gay at Duke would be an example of a coach dominating a sport the ENTIRE COUNTRY cares about. Or Satan at Bama. The Arkansas track program has won a GAZILLION titles, and were probably coached by the same coach most or all of that time. BIG DEAL!!
I do agree as much as I loved Dale back in the day, the court shouldn't be named for him. You should at least win one natty for that consideration.
