Looking to maybe do something different this year. Would prefer ON the water and I’m thinking maybe not a resort but cabin/lake house instead.

Just not sure if there’s a better spot than others.

Always great experience. Getting to be a very popular destination so I recommend booking out and trying to find a newer VRBO that hasn't had its price adjusted by demand. For reference, I've booked July 4 houses on the lake with docks for 10-15 people 9 months out.

No. 1 tip is to stay on the south side of the lake, i.e. Lakeway and Hudson Bend areas. The other side is like an extra 45 minutes to get to as you have to loop all the way around the lake, and it's pretty desolate so grocery stores and supplies would be few and far between.

Yeah you're going to be about 30-45 out of the thick of Austin even in Lakeway depending on traffic. It's just that you'll only be about 10 minutes from grocery stores, liquor stores, etc. versus 30 minutes to those on the other side of the lake. And on the other side of the lake you're looking at an hour to Austin.

About that long, yes.

It's kind of weird because depending on the day it'll either feel that long or shorter. A lot of the time outside rush hour you can drive pretty fast, which is what I think messes with the perception.

From the south side of the lake you've still got 25-30 min to get to Austin proper. From Point Venture/ Lago Vista, you've got an hour or more to get to the same spot in Austin.

Stayed at a house on Travis View Loop in Marshall Ford before. Was nice. Think it was a 3/4 bedroom
